Part five of Stephan Larose's The Peninsula Shanghai brings old-school luxury back to the Bund feature article. Read on about entertainment and attractions in and around the hotel below...

The concierge staff, though very friendly and eager to help, can only offer  limited options at present. Suggestions for what to do in town were somewhat generic for anyone who's spent more than a few weeks in Shanghai, though entirely appropriate for first-time visitors. First mentioned were a handful of Shanghai’s best-known attractions: Yu Garden, People’s Square, Xintiandi and the Jade Buddha Temple. Suggestions for current ongoings and hot tickets were not especially forthcoming. Fortunately, as the hotel is directly on the Bund, all you need do is step out and wander around to take in some of the city’s most celebrated historical buildings.

Recommendations for dining were better, with Stillers Restaurant and Cooking School, Mr & Mrs Bund, Ye Shanghai and the 021 Shanghai Restaurant (for fans of authentic Shanghainese cuisine) all making the list. Newcomers to Shanghai should ask the concierge for their Shanghai Discovery Guide.

Guests (or perhaps their kids) who prefer to stay in can enjoy free use of Xbox 360 consoles, though no list exists of the library of available games, making selection somewhat tricky. You’ll also be able to enjoy DVD rentals after the grand opening. These, and Xbox games, look exceptionally crisp on the Peninsula’s 46” flat screens.
